Debby made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane, impacting the same area devastated by Hurricane Idalia almost a year ago. Hundreds of thousands in the region were without power and a tornado watches were in place for millions of people in Florida and Georgia.
WCK’s Relief Team prepositioned ahead of the storm and prepared hundreds of sandwiches to provide immediate support as we assessed needs. Our new Rapid Response Field Kitchen also saw use for the first time. The vehicle is the latest addition to our fleet and is a state-of-the-art, mobile Field Kitchen that enables our teams to begin cooking thousands of meals immediately after a disaster.
Our teams responded to Hurricane Idalia in this same region last year, providing nearly 100,000 meals to families impacted. This is the second hurricane WCK has responded to in 2024, our teams were on several Caribbean islands after Hurricane Beryl made landfall in early July.
